Preparing to release the kintu in the water |

Carl’s journey with the Q’ero began with a ritual cleansing ceremony led by Doña Julia Calderón, a renowned medicine woman and herbalist. The ceremony took place on the bank of a river above the town of Ollantaytambo, a town containing an Inka sacred site which may once have been used as a fortress. While Doña Julia cleansed Carl with water and sacred smoke derived from palo santo wood found in the Peruvian Amazon, the Q’ero held space for the ceremony. | |
