In the Inka tradition, a shaman-in-training is given rites of passage, which are energetic transmissions that link them to the lineage of medicine men and women that came before them. According to the Q’ero, the medicine person never works alone. When the medicine person opens sacred space, he or she accesses the knowledge and healing abilities of every shaman within the lineage. The great rites of passage are the entry points into this knowledge, which provide a timeless understanding of life, of creation, and the nature of miracles.
Traditionally, a shaman-in-training receives certain rites of passage at certain points within his training. Carl had previously received these rites in conjunction with his training in the Healing the Light Body School. In Peru, he received the rites a second time, deepening and strengthening his existing connection to the medicine lineage.
